Francesco Marinucci

Francesco Marinucci’s career is built on one consistent thread: connecting the science of diagnostics to the realities of global health systems — and making that connection work in places where it is hardest to do.

With 25 years spanning laboratory medicine, global market access, health policy, and international business development, Francesco brings to KOMPASSIUM a depth of experience that is both technically rigorous and commercially grounded. His work has taken him from clinical laboratories in Rome to HIV programs across Sub-Saharan Africa and Southeast Asian region, where he navigated complex market entry strategies and donor-funded ecosystems. From field operations in resource-limited settings to the boardrooms of global health organizations and multinationals, Francesco has built market access strategies that bridge innovation with impact across three continents.

At Abbott Molecular, Francesco served for over seven years as Director of Global Market Access & Funding, navigating the intersection of regulatory frameworks, funding mechanisms, and commercial strategy across more than 160 countries. Before that, as Head of the HIV/HCV Unit at FIND in Geneva, he orchestrated evidence generation to support WHO guidelines and worked directly with industry partners to accelerate the development and market entry of in-vitro diagnostics in emerging markets. Earlier in his career, he led the Global Laboratory Program at the University of Maryland’s Institute of Human Virology, building sustainable diagnostic capacity across 200+ clinics and treatment centers in Africa, the Caribbean, and South America — serving over 400,000 patients.

His academic foundation is equally rigorous: a PhD in Public Health and Microbiology from Sapienza Università di Roma, a Post-Graduate Specialization in Clinical Chemistry from the University of Rome Tor Vergata, and an Executive MBA from Quantic School of Business and Technology. He currently serves as Adjunct Assistant Professor in Epidemiology and Public Health at the University of Maryland School of Medicine — a role that reflects his continued commitment to the science behind the strategy.

At KOMPASSIUM, Francesco strengthens our capabilities in global health markets, with particular depth in diagnostics, infectious disease ecosystems, market access strategy, and stakeholder engagement across Africa, Europe, and international health institutions. His ability to move fluently between clinical evidence, policy frameworks, and commercial execution makes him a distinctive partner for organizations navigating complex health markets — from early market entry through to scaled impact.

Francesco, glad to have you with us. Your career is a clear example of what “doers, not sayers” means when it comes to providing more people with practical access to healthcare innovations.
